EMPLOYEE TESTIMONY – CHARLES’S STORY
PORT FACILITY SECURITY OFFICER
CHARLES has worked with Maritime Preservation Limited for over nine (9) years, having served on a fleet of Tall-Ships, previously operated by the owner.
His shipyard job includes managing the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) departmart and making sure employees and contractors are properly equipped and are “Fit-to-Work.” According to him, “MPL treats me like family and I always feel appreciated. Management’s approach is on a first name basis.”
His introduction to the shipyard came about when he was the Cargo Supervisor, responsible for bringing materials and equipment into the port of Port of Spain facility, during the conversion of the meterological ship ‘FRANCE II’ to ‘S/Y LEGACY’ cruiseship, in the early 1990’s.
“While not working, I enjoy eating seafood and that is why I consciously make sure our facility does not negatively affect the surrounding waterfront or our city neighbours.”
EMPLOYEE TESTIMONY – PRATIKSHA’S STORY
PRATIKSHA undertook internSHIPS with the Maritime Services Division, GoRTT and at National Energy during her summertime, while studying at The University of Trinidad and Tobago, Chaguaramas Maritime Campus.
Today, she is a holder of a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Nautical Science/Maritime Operations, Maritime Studies and is actively pursuing her Master of Science (MSc) Operational Maritime Management.
Along with her studies, she is gainfully employed as the Purchasing Officer at our shipyard, located in the port of Port-of-Spain. Pratiksha loves her job and says “The opportunity to work in one of the Caribbean’s leading shipyards assists my greater understanding of the global maritime industry. It also plays an important part in helping me to take meaning of my academic studies.”
